2020 Competition Team Auditions 

This year's annual competition auditions will be held on Wednesday, July 15th, 2020 for all dancers (current competition and new auditions). 


You must bring the music you will be auditioning with. Your device must be able to be used with an aux cord. If we already have the music you will be dancing to (if it is a dance we have taught you), there is no need to bring it. Just please communicate with us which piece you will be auditioning with.

​Dancers can only audition for a genre if they have already had one year prior experience in said genre.
​

Jazz Try-Out Requirements

  • Improv your own dance of 32 counts (For current competition dancers ONLY)
  • Leaps, single/double pirouette (we will call different ones out during your audition) 
  • All dancers trying out for the elite team will be required to have a clean double pirouette
  • Right and left splits, center straddle 
  • We will pick a part of your dance for you to show us that we have been working on all year
  • Those that have never tried out for Jazz are welcome to show us any dance that they have done on their own or in the studio previously. Splits and straddles will be required as well. 

Hip-Hop/ Clog Try-Out Requirements

  • Show what you learned at the master class with Shayne Stoneking (all current hip hop competition dancers only)
  • New tryouts will show their current dance or one that they created on their own 

General Guidelines 

​​​What do I wear?
  • Dress includes a white t-shirt, black shorts, clean shoes, and hair pulled up neatly 
How do I sign up?
  • ​​​Information on how to sign up will be made available at the front desk! Please call 740-617-7281 for more information! 
​How much does it cost to audition?​
  • ​​It is free to audition! ​
​How do I know If I make the team?​​
  • ​Results will be posted on the front door of the studio at 5pm the following evening. Each dancer will be given a number. The numbers only will be posted so as to not hurt feelings if your child doesn't make the team they wanted to make. So be sure not to forget your audition number! 

What does it mean if I make the competition team?

  • Attendance at competitions, dance conventions, scheduled shows, scheduled parades, and all dance functions is required. We typically attend at least three competitions and two conventions per year.
  • You will be held accountable for making every practice; if you have to miss one it must be pre-approved by your teacher
  • ​We also have a demerit system in place for our expectations, TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAMWORK!
  • ​You will be invited to dance on the production team if you audition and are accepted in our Hip Hop Competition program! It's our largest dance of the year, and is the most exciting, at no extra cost! There is no regular class fee for your child to participate in our annual production; however, there will be an additional costume fee. 
  • The jazz teams will be a part of our very first annual Jazz production next year! There will not be an extra costume fee, but there will be a tank top and shorts that they will be asked to purchase on their own at a later date! 
  • You will receive more information on jewelry, makeup and hair at a later date for all competition teams. 

​Classes & Other Important Information

  • Throughout our regular dance season, competition classes are $40 for the first class your child is enrolled in, and $25 per each additional class that they decide to take
  • All competition dancers are required to take a ballet  or jazz class throughout the entire year, no matter what genre of dance they are in. *Boys are NOT required to participate in a ballet/jazz class if the only genre they are participating in is Hip Hop.
  • ​Hip Hop dancers are required to purchase specific tennis shoes and jazz dancers are to have specific "Capezio Free Form Jazz Shoes". Please see Miss Jill and Miss Lexi for more information.
  • ​Competition/Performance outfits are ordered through our team store online. You will be notified by Miss Jill when the online team store opens up. You will find the link to access this store on our private A2J Crew Facebook page. Total cost for their performance wear is approximately $170. Every competition dancer MUST purchase this performance-wear in order to compete with their team. 
  • ​Each dancer will be required to purchase one costume per genre they are enrolled in (approximately $70-$80). Costume deposits of $50 per costume is due mid October of each year. Remaining balance is due mid November of each year. There is no regular class fee for your child to participate in our annual production; however, there will be an additional costume fee (only for the Hip Hop Production). 

Summer Intensive

  • WE WILL NOT BE HOLDING SUMMER INTENSIVE CLASSES THIS YEAR DUE TO COVID-19, BUT STAY TUNED FOR INFORMATION ABOUT NEXT YEAR!

New Updates and Choreography Information Facebook Pages

  • ​​In today's society a lot of us rely on social media to stay up to date, so we have created private pages for our dancers and parents to attend to everything that they need to know!  ​
  • We are currently in the process of creating our very own A2J Crew Dance Kompany app through the App Store! How exciting! Stay tuned for all of the very cool, new features that will be offered in the upcoming months! 
  • For now, we are using the BAND app! Our choreography  is posted to this app strictly for dancers and parents to monitor the progress of your dancer and have the opportunity to practice week to week! This app helps keep you involved in your child's classes, and helps them to spend extra time on each of their dances! We love this app! It's a great addition to our teaching curriculum!
  • Once you make the competition team, or simply enroll in any class at the A2J Crew Dance Kompany we ask for you to join our private invitation only BAND app! Ask Miss Jill about how to join today!
