What is Contemporary?

Contemporary is an expressive style of dance often accompanied by "telling a story." It is a style of dance that combines several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classic ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and body through fluid dance movements. Many words of the songs are displayed in the movements that accompany them. 

Requirements

AGES 10+ 
Shoes:

• Recreational: Tan A2J jazz shoes (purchased and sized at the front desk)
• Competition: Tan A2J jazz shoes (purchased and sized at the front desk)

Dancewear:

• Black leotard
• Pink or tan tights  ​
• Dance pants/booty shorts
• Hair pulled back neatly, away from face

Boys

Boys should wear athletic shorts or pants (no sweatpants) and a t-shirt. Solid black or white is preferred. ​

Shoes:
Black A2J jazz shoes (purchased and sized in the lobby at the front desk)

Dress Code Policy

A2J has strict guidelines with regards to shoes and attire permitted at each level in the classroom. Consult the A2J Crew Handbook for guidelines or contact the studio with any specific questions. We have a team store where shoes and dance attire can be purchased.
